Fight Leads To Atlantic City Stabbing, Suspects Nabbed: Police

Two South Jersey men were arrested in connection with a fight that ended in a stabbing, authorities said.

On Friday, June 3 at 5:35 a.m., police dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding a fight near Florida and Atlantic Avenues, Atlantic City police said.

Officer Thomas Gilardi arrived to find a man, 23, suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. The victim was treated on scene by EMS and then taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Gilardi was able to obtain information pertaining to the stabbing suspect and learned that he left the scene in a gray-colored sedan that was possibly traveling to Pleasantville. 

Approximately 30 minutes later, patrol officers from the Pleasantville Police Department located the vehicle in Pleasantville. Two male suspects, Luis Sanchez and Wilkin Jimenez, were subsequently detained, police said. The ensuing investigation led to the identification of Sanchez as the suspect that stabbed the victim, police said. Sanchez was taken into custody without incident. Jimenez was determined to be involved in the initial fight and was also taken into custody without incident.

Sanchez, 37, of Absecon, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, police said.

Wilkin Jimenez, 37, of Pleasantville was charged with simple assault.

CHARGES: Simple assault.

Sanchez was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Jimenez was released on a summons pending a future court date. Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
